Chalk it Up

I really like making stuff and I like design and decorating as well.  A while back I blogged about a little project I did to make a bulletin board for the kitchen wall.  For me it was a partially decorative endeavor.  Something that could add a little flair to the kitchen.

But regardless of that it has turned out to be a great little asset.  We like to try and cook home made meals as often as possible, and being successful at this is really dependent on having the right ingredients handy.

I know that sounds easy but its not really.  How often do you go to the grocery store and walk the isles in a fog?  You grab a bunch of miscellaneous stuff and then get home and can't think of a damn thing to make as you seem short of something for every recipe.  Well now with our handy dandy blackboard this rarely happens.

As we are cooking or baking and run out of an ingredient we write it on the board.  There is no fumbling for paper, the chalk is handy and it goes up.  Then when we are ready to go to the store we transfer the list to our iPhone app and bob's your uncle!  This also helps to keep you focused at the store so you get what you really need and not a bunch of impulse items.

This little board was made with some chalkboard spray on a scrap piece of wood and some cheap trim I had in the garage for a frame.  I used some acrylic paint I had and painted a couple of peppers on it but you could personalize one anyway you like.
