I Built a Trellis

I like to garden...a lot.  I really like to get outside and putz and I think the garden is a really creative outlet for me, especially after being inside an office all day.  I have a vision for our garden and so I tackle a bit at a time to work towards that vision.  I used to live on an acreage and had a wide expanse of space (6 acres), but this is a whole different challenge.  I am embracing the north / south facing exposures and putting in sun loving plants in the front and a shade garden in the back.

One part of the back yard felt too open for me, as if the feng shui was off, although I don't have a clue if that is true.  So... I built a trellis.  I did this mostly myself with Chad helping me with a few of the heavy parts.  It went very well, although I have realized I NEED a compressor and nail gun if I am going to continue to play carpenter Tam.  I have now been staining it which with all the little 1x3s and 1x1s has been taking me longer than erecting the damn thing.  But, its almost done.

I bought a little tree that I still have to dig in, and i will probably add a few other plants, rocks, etc. That's what I love so much about gardening, it's a work in progress.  And when I am gardening or working in the garage, my mind goes blank.  It is wonderful.  I am one of those people that has a brain that never shuts off, or maybe that is just being a women.  Well, this kind of work sets my brain on idle and I love to feel like I have accomplished something with my own hands.

  5. Like usual your backyard is beautiful. You should start charging those impromptu tours people take of your backyard.

  7. Its funny you say Dr. Suess-ian, I think so too. My friend was calling them "Horton Hears a Who Tree" lol. Now I will have to keep them shaped that way : )

  10. Oh by the way the tree does really go nicely with the trellis and you did good going with a nice dark stain as opposed to that gray/green you had on there to start with.
